The Aṣṭa Lakṣmīs (“Eight Lakṣmīs”) represent the eight core aspects of wealth and prosperity as personified by Goddess Lakṣmī, the Hindu goddess of abundance, fortune, and grace. While Lakṣmī is often associated solely with material wealth, these eight forms reflect a more complete vision of prosperity—encompassing spiritual, emotional, intellectual, familial, and societal wellbeing. Ādi Lakṣmī

आदि लक्ष्मी – Primordial Lakṣmī

Meaning: “Ādi” means “primordial” or “first.” She is the original and eternal form of Lakṣmī.
Aspect of Wealth: Spiritual wealth – the source of all other blessings.
Depiction: Seated on a lotus, with four arms holding a lotus, flag, and showing blessing and protection mudrās.
Significance: Represents timeless existence, divine support and sustenance, and is always present with Nārāyaṇa.

Dhānya Lakṣmī

धान्य लक्ष्मी — Goddess of Harvest & Food Grains

Meaning: “Dhānya” means grain or food.
Aspect of Wealth: Agricultural wealth, nourishment, abundance of food.
Depiction: Dressed in green, she carries sugarcane, bananas, rice, and other crops, blessing devotees with sustenance.
Significance: Ensures that the household is nourished, free from hunger, and has sustainable prosperity.

Dhairya Lakṣmī

धैर्य लक्ष्मी — Goddess of Courage

Also called: Vīra Lakṣmī
Meaning: “Dhairya” means courage or valor.
Aspect of Wealth: Inner strength, patience, moral courage, mental resilience.
Depiction: Usually red in color, holds weapons such as a mace, shield, or trident, showing a protective and assertive stance.
Significance: Grants bravery in the face of adversity, giving the wealth of fortitude and endurance.

Gaja Lakṣmī

Dhana Lakṣmī
