The great river of the Deccan, described here as non-different from Gaṅgā, emerging near Nashik where Śiva remains as Tryambakeśvara. It reaches the sea through seven branches — the Sapta-Godāvarī — which tradition connects with Gautama’s prayer that the water also reach the hermitages of his accusers. Mahāprabhu travelled extensively along it.
