Its verse on giving — equal merit to a non-brāhmaṇa, double to a nominal one, a hundred thousandfold to a learned one, unlimited to one who has crossed to the far shore of the Veda — is the ancient source behind the devotional argument that the recipient decides what a gift becomes.
