Wife of Kaśyapa and mother of cows and buffaloes — the bovine branch of creation, recalling the wider complex of Surabhi or Kāmadhenu, archetype of the cow, associated with nourishment, abundance, yajña and agricultural prosperity. Through her the cow is given a sacred cosmic ancestry.
