“Merchant” — Prahlāda’s word for one who seeks benedictions from the Lord: na sa bhṛtyaḥ sa vai vaṇik, “he is not a servant, he is a merchant.” The objection is not to wealth but to the commercial structure of the relationship, and Prahlāda rejects it from both sides, refusing also to see Bhagavān as a proprietor who buys loyalty.
