Wife of Kaśyapa and mother of the Dānavas, among them Śambara, Tāraka, Vṛṣaparvan, Puloman, Vipracitti and Svarbhānu. Daityas and Dānavas are both broadly asuras but genealogically distinct — a distinction routinely lost where every adversary of the devas is simply called a demon.
