Droṇācārya, the brāhmaṇa master of arms who trained both the Pāṇḍavas and the Kauravas, and the second commander of the Kaurava army at Kurukṣetra, leading it for five days after Bhīṣma’s fall. He was invincible while armed; he laid down his weapons on hearing that his son was dead, and was killed by Dhṛṣṭadyumna, who the epic says was born for exactly that purpose.
