The external potency, distinguished here from Yogamāyā. In this account the goddess born beside Kṛṣṇa in Vraja differentiates into two: Yogamāyā, who remains as Paurṇamāsī arranging the līlā, and Mahāmāyā, who goes back with Vasudeva to Mathurā and confronts Kaṁsa. She is also the female fox who crosses the Yamunā ahead of Vasudeva.
