The forest of Kṛṣṇa’s earliest childhood, east of the Yamunā, closely identified in later Vraja tradition with Gokula — śrī-gokula, mahāvana—dui ‘eka’ haya. The Padma Purāṇa places his bāla-krīḍā here and names the killing of Pūtanā and the breaking of the yamala-arjuna trees; the presiding form is Bāla-Gopāla, also called Dāmodara.
