The period ruled by one Manu, fourteen of which occur in a day of Brahmā. Because the Purāṇic universe is repeatedly manifested, reorganised and withdrawn, the same personalities or classes of beings can appear in different genealogical configurations in different cycles — so apparently contradictory genealogies may record different cosmic histories rather than scribal error.
