“Without desire” — but not emotional emptiness. In Gauḍīya usage the niṣkāma devotee may long intensely for remembrance, service, the association of Vaiṣṇavas, residence in Vraja and above all Kṛṣṇa’s happiness. What disappears is the independent, self-centred agenda, not the faculty of desire.
