An appointed meeting-place — the word means a sign, an appointment, a rendezvous. The Padma Purāṇa sets Saṁketa within one of the petals of the sacred lotus and mentions two huts there, which fits the later Vraja understanding of it as a confidential meeting-place between Rādhā’s side of Vraja and Kṛṣṇa’s. The place-name itself says what the place is for.
