The Vedānta-sūtra, also called the Brahma-sūtra, is Bādarāyaṇa’s distillation of the Upaniṣads into a few hundred aphorisms of extreme compression. Almost every school of Vedānta defines itself by its commentary on this text — the sūtras are terse enough that the commentaries do most of the arguing.
