The mountain, personified, whose envy of Himālaya opens the Lalita-mādhava account of Rādhā’s appearance. Himālaya’s daughter Gaurī — Pārvatī — had obtained Śiva; Vindhya therefore asked Brahmā for daughters whose husband would surpass even Śiva, and received Rādhā and Candrāvalī, placed in his wife’s womb by Yogamāyā.
