Kāmadeva, the deity of desire, also called Manmatha — “he who churns the mind.” Gauḍīya poetry invokes him mainly by contrast: Kṛṣṇa is manmatha-manmatha, the one who bewilders the bewilderer, so that ordinary attraction is read as a faint reflection of His own.
