Kṛṣṇa’s mother in the Mathurā prison, before whom the Lord manifests in a four-armed Viṣṇu form and who asks him to become an ordinary child. Gauḍīya devotional usage also applies the name to Yaśodā, so that Jaya Devakī-nandana may be meditated upon as Yaśodā’s son — without denying that the Devakī of Mathurā is a distinct person.
