Varṣāṇā, also written Barsānā, the village of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī and Her parents Vṛṣabhānu and Kīrtidā, set among four hills across from Nandagrāma. It stands on Brahmagiri, the hill held to represent Brahmā and described as four-headed. In the Vraja chronology it is the counterpart of Nandagrāma: when Upananda’s council took the cowherds out of Vṛndāvana to a region held to be blessed for devotees and hostile to demons, Rādhā’s family took the one hill and Nanda Mahārāja’s people the other. Kṛṣṇa comes here to understand Her heart, and steals the impressions of Her lotus feet from its land.
