The sakhīs, Rādhā’s intimate girlfriends in Vraja, whose happiness lies entirely in arranging and witnessing the meeting of the Divine Couple rather than in union of their own. Their praṇaya is itself described as an adornment of Rādhā — the fragrant unguent in Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī’s Sanskrit, and the sandalwood paste in the Caitanya-caritāmṛta.
