The longest of the principal Upaniṣads, preserved in the Śukla Yajur Veda and containing Yājñavalkya’s dialogues with Gārgī and with his wife Maitreyī. Its declaration that whoever departs this world without knowing the Imperishable is a kṛpaṇa gives the Gītā’s word kārpaṇya its spiritual weight.
