Śṛṅgāra-rasa, the erotic or amorous sentiment, the first and most elaborated of the rasas in Sanskrit poetics. It divides into saṁyoga, love in union, and vipralambha, love in separation. Vaiṣṇava writers take it as the highest devotional mood, and Jayadeva goes further still, describing Kṛṣṇa as śṛṅgāra itself taken bodily form.
